Ernesto I. Segal, M.D. was born in Caracas, Venezuela and is a magna cum laude graduate of the Central University of Venezuela School of Medicine. Following his internship at the University of Michigan – St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Dr. Segal spent six months at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute studying retinal electrophysiology and retinal dystrophies. He completed his ophthalmology residency program at the University of Texas-Galveston. After his residency Dr. Segal completed a two-year fellowship in Vitreo-Retinal Diseases and Surgery at the University of Texas-Hermann Eye Center in Houston.
Before joining The Eye Associates of Boca Raton, Dr. Segal returned to Venezuela where he was in private practice for seven years and became the Director of the Vitreo-Retinal Department of the Venezuelan Association of the Advancement of Ophthalmology. Dr. Segal is Board Certified and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also a member of the American Society of Retinal Specialists and a number of specialty societies.
