Howard B. Goldman, M.D.
|
After graduating from Columbia University and the New York University School of Medicine, Dr. Goldman completed a year of general surgery. Fascinated with the eye and microsurgery, he undertook and completed his ophthalmology
training under Dr. Paul Henkind at the Montefiore/Einstein Medical complex in New York. He started in private practice in 1977 in Vero Beach, Florida and relocated to Boca Raton in 1980.
Dr. Goldman specializes in no-injection, small incision, no-stitch, no-patch cataract and lens replacement surgery utilizing the most modern techniques, equipment and intraocular lens implants, including the new self-focusing Crystalens. He is certified
by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons. He was chosen by Castle and Connolly to be included in The Best Doctors in Florida and The Best Ophthalmologists
in America.
He has worked extensively in developing countries including Mexico, Guyana, Ecuador and Panama providing charity eye surgery for the indigent blind since 1980 through Florida Surgical Eye Expeditions and serves as the President of that organization.
When not in the operating room or office, Dr. Goldman enjoys growing orchids, spending time with his family and learning to play golf. |

Jeffrey M. Perlman, M.D.

Dr. Perlman is the first and only full-time doctor in Boca Raton specializing in Pediatric and Neuro-Ophthalmology. He is a graduate of Cornell University and New York Medical College. After his internship and residency in ophthalmology at New York Medical College, Dr. Perlman completed a dual fellowship in Pediatric and Neuro-Ophthalmology at the
renowned Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary. This special training brings unique credentials to our community and has prompted many invitations for Dr. Perlman to lecture to local physicians, optometrists, nurses and community organizations. He is Board Certified and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons as well as a member of numerous specialty societies.
Dr. Perlman and his wife, Amy, live in Boca Raton with their two sons, Gregory and Bradley. They enjoy the Florida outdoors together. Dr. Perlman is an avid ice hockey fan and amateur player. |

Mark H. Weiner, M.D.

Dr. Weiner is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. He attended the University of Miami School of Medicine and graduated in the top ten percent of his class as an Alpha Omega Alpha scholar. After his internship at the Beth Israel Medical Center, he went through an ophthalmology residency at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.
He completed fellowship training in oculoplastic surgery at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital under some of the most renowned specialists in New York. Dr. Weiner is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is on staff at the Boca Raton Community Hospital, and the Outpatient Surgery of Boca Raton. Like our other doctors, feeling the need to
share his expertise with those less fortunate, Dr. Weiner has participated in Surgical Eye Expeditions to Third World Nations. He is a native Floridian and grew up in Broward County. Dr. Weiner enjoys tennis, basketball, water-skiing and time with his wife, Suzanne, and their two children, Adam and Stephanie. |

Ernesto I Segal, M.D.

Dr. Segal is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the Central University of Venezuela School of Medicine, where he graduated in the top two percent of his class. He received several awards for his academic performance including the Fundayacucho National Excellence Scholarship. After his internship at the University of Michigan-St. Joseph Mercy Hospital,
he spent six months at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, learning retinal electrophysiology and retinal dystrophies. Dr. Segal completed his Ophthalmology residency program at the University of Texas-Galveston. Following his residency, Dr. Segal completed a two year fellowship in Vitreo-Retinal Diseases and Surgery at the University of Texas-Hermann Eye Center in Houston. He returned
to Venezuela, where he was in practice for seven years and became the Director of the Vitreo-Retinal Department of the Venezuelan Association for the Advancement of Ophthalmology (AVAO).
He is a member of various specialty societies. Dr. Segal is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Texas-Galveston and the A.V.A.O. Dr. Segal has published numerous articles in specialty journals and has authored several book chapters on his specialty. He has also been invited to lecture at multiple international meetings about retinal diseases and telemedicine applications
for ophthalmology.
Away from the office, Dr. Segal enjoys jogging, playing tennis and outdoor photography. |

Douglas A. Kohl, M.D.

Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Dr. Kohl is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Youngstown State University. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in Akron, Ohio after being accepted in their accelerated B.S./M.D. program. Dr. Kohl completed his Ophthalmology Residency at the prestigious
Kresge Eye Institute, Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. His accolades include multiple scholarship awards and the Award for Compassionate Medicine from the Kresge Eye Institute.
Because of his deep interest in glaucoma and excellent credentials, he applied for and was accepted to the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School in Boston Massachusetts, for an advanced fellowship in glaucoma. Dr. Kohl is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He has published
and presented numerous research articles on glaucoma. When he is not in the office, Dr. Kohl has many interests; however, golf is his passion. |

Thomas W. Hegland, O.D.

Thomas W. Hegland, O.D. was born in Chicago, Illinois. He completed his undergraduate work at Florida Atlantic University here in Boca Raton. Dr. Hegland obtained his Doctor of Optometry from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee, where he achieved membership in Beta Sigma Kappa and the Academic Honors Society. Dr. Hegland has
worked closely with ophthalmologists through most of his professional career. In addition to performing comprehensive eye examinations, Dr. Hegland has a special interest in evaluating low vision patients for the suitability of optical training devices and vision training. He works closely with our surgeons in the post-operative care and has a growing practice of routine eye examinations. Dr. Hegland
also provides emergency triage and care for our office. Together with his wife Patti and their four children, Ashley, T.J., Brooke and Nicole, they enjoy boating and fishing. |
